It's sure been a long while since I've done any animations with lip syncing. And this is the first time I'm doing any kind of lip syncing with the new overhauled rig!
So, yeah. Just to show some of the hidden benefits of the new reworked rig that you guys will likely never notice, because it's all behind the scenes, I started working on this animation only 4 days ago as of uploading this animation. In contrast, the last time I did an animation like this was with Coloratura again in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk6-yRIOUNU
This old one took like a whole month to make. The benefits of the new rig when it comes to animation is the automation of a lot of things that used to have to be manually posed, mostly with facial animation. Right now, there are 95 total shape keys/blend shapes contributing to the facial rigging with unique drivers for each. 60 of which are for the eyebrows, 30 for each brow. Before, there was exactly 0 shape keys for the eyebrows, and a few for the mouth and other parts of the face like the eyelids. That was it. As a result, it took way longer to make poses for any facial expression due to all the manual work that I now don't have to worry about!
Anywho, this animation was made to now resume production of the ultimate goal of this project, and that's to recreate the Magic Inside scene from The Mane Attraction S5E24 from MLP:FiM. I still expect to make some changes to the rig as I work on this, but there aren't any more drastic changes that I can foresee that will interrupt the production of this main project. The first part is actually going to be the easy part, and that's animating Coloratura's main performance. The real challenge of the project is literally everything else. The set, background characters and animation, creating new pony bases for 2 large and average size male types, creating pegasi and alicorn wings (for Twi), and filly base models.
So yeah, expect progress on those soon as well, most of which you can see the progress of on my DeviantArt below, as well as Twitter (just now started to use it, so hopefully I can stick to that):
