The "heroes" are trying that rare but specific trope: Sowing the seeds of discontent, agitating the team against each other in order to disband them or display a momentary weakness.

Any stories about that in a tabletop setting? Either the DM against the players or the players against some NPCs?

EDIT: By the way, Daylight Savings Time has begun. Due to a little hiccup made when I started this comic, the site time jumps an hour ahead during the fall and winter and corrects itself in the spring and summer. That means, for the rest of the world, the site updates an hour later.

Can we avoid rants about how pointless DST is this year? I mean, there've already been a few, but for Pete's sake I've heard them all.

SFX: (CRASH) (zwip)
Mane-iac: Was that the cage?
Long-Face: I think so…
DM: When the Pharaoh arrives a half-second later, one side of the bars have been pried free, and the Power Ponies have disappeared!
Pharaoh Phetlock: Can I follow a trail?
Fili-Second: Yeah you can! It's called… come'n get me!
Pharaoh Phetlock: I found them! Big mistake, taunting me and my super speed!
SFX: (vwoom)
DM: <roll> In your turbo sprint, you lose track of the source of the voice amidst the maze-like halls of the lair.
Pharaoh Phetlock: Why did we design it this way, then?!
Mysterious Voice 1: Don't worry about us! Worry about yourself!
Mysterious Voice 2: Your "friends" will inevitably backstab you!
Pharaoh Phetlock: Oh, come on. F for effort.
Mysterious Voice: Your kind are power-hungry and unstable! It's only a matter of time!
Pharaoh Phetlock: We're better than that!
Mysterious Voice: Maybe. But what will you do if one of them isn't?
Shadowmane: Can we show up on the scene now?
DM: Yes. You arrive at the empty cage. The Pharaoh is down one of the halls, but you don't quite know which.
High Heel: I liked the maze idea…
