Gotta give the kid credit, he went from being "Twilight's Assistant/Little brother" to become the second most powerfully(politically speaking) behind only Twilight. Basically, if anything happened to Twilight, Spike would become Regent of Equestria and possibly take over as Emperor.
Spike is no longer an assistant, he is now Royal Advisor/Ambassador to all creatures
