Messier dusted himself off and cast his gaze about the darkened room, squinting his eyes as they adjusted to the light. It was such a strange place he’d stumbled upon… no, more accurately fell into! He stood up from the small pile of rubble that had been the section of roof which collapsed beneath him unexpectedly, sending him down into this strange subterranean ruin.
The whole place seemed off, as a somewhat stale but intensely sweet scent hung in the air, like a bakery in an ancient building. Lifting up a talon he looked closely at the ‘rubble’ which stuck to his digits… crumbs? Wafer? His eyes were not deceiving him, the roof which he’d fallen through was unmistakably made from some sort of wafer like baked goods, as was the floor beneath him. His exploring eyes saw the entirety of the structure was similarly constructed of various edible structures, columns of towering chocolate with oozing saucy drizzles slowly creeping down the curved edges.
Around the roof of the room where chocolatey walls connected to the wafer ceiling, dense strands of caramel hun in perfect stillness, seemingly adhering the parts of this bizarre structure together. A darkened doorway stood just on the far wall, a strange force almost beckoning him to enter the darkness beyond.
He uneasily shifted between his talons and hooves, wafer floor crunching softly beneath him as he glanced back and forth between the portal beyond and the glimmering light from the hole he’d fallen through. All instinct was telling him to fly up and leave this strange place, but his curiosity for what lay beyond couldn’t be sated. He HAD to know what this place was, and what lay beyond. With a deep breath he cautiously steps forward, turning away from the light and moving through the door. Further in the scent of chocolate and sugary sweetness was near overpowering as it hung in the air.
The room beyond was dimly lit, through a strange translucent vault in the wafery ceiling, perhaps the dull remnant of a magical light source. His eyes came to rest upon a looming shape in the room, sitting atop a massive plinth constructed of dark chocolate. As he approached it came into clearer view, his eyes now adjusted to the dim light around him; it was a sarcophagus, unlike any he had ever seen.
It was made of rich milk chocolate, intricately molded with stripes white chocolate detailing throughout, bearing the shape of a hippogriff, stylized in an ancient fashion, seemingly undisturbed for who knows how long. He approached, eying it over closely, and bringing a talon up to gently touch the shape of the chocolate hooves on the lid of the sarcophagus.
With a sudden, startling motion the lid slid away off of the sarcophagus as if all friction had vanished, leaving the frightened hippogriff staring into the void space of an… empty sarcophagus? No… wait.
Catching his breath he looked more closely to see that it wasn’t quite empty after all. A smooth, shimmering mass of golden goo filled the bottom of the sarcophagus, seeming to move of its own volition, surging thickly back and forth as if it had a mind of its own. With a split second motion, too quick to react against, this seething mass lashed out, striking him in the beak with tremendous force, knocking him back off of his hooves as it adhered to his beak.
“Mnnph!?” Messier protests, finding his speech prevented by the sticky mass which held his beak shut.
The substance squeezed in around the edges of his beak, filling it with the thick, sticky mass that he now found distinctly tasting of caramel. Squirming in place he clawed at the caramel, trying to pull it away with little success as it filled his mouth full to bursting, muffling most sound he was able to make. With a deft motion the animated caramel coiled around his beak, squeezing it tight and covering his nostrils, trapping his breath within him.
His eyes went wide, chest heaving with panicked breath as the caramel began flattening into thick strips that spun around him, sticky candy binding to candy as his beak was fully enveloped. Before he could even attempt to pull it away, two more coils of caramel lashed out, deftly binding his legs together and his arms to his side.
The hippogriff was unable to even whimper as he struggled and thrashed within the unyielding hold of the caramel as it twisted around his panicked chest and squirming legs, pinning his wings to his back as well. Despite the peril he faced, he couldn’t help but blush to himself as he found himself enveloped, slowly being mummified by the sticky strands of sugary caramel.
For Messier (GanymedeSkies)
First time doing mummification, was pretty fun! With a delicious twist haha
