Backstory: Skateboard Jo had a passion for skateboarding ever since she was a foal. Although she had never been bullied, she has witnessed it, and she even dealt with insecurities. However, she was fortunate to have her friends and family by her side, especially Flora, whom she was very close after standing up to a group of bullies. She also invented the "Sonic Skateboom," which is similar to the Sonic Rainboom except it's on a skateboarding ramp. When she earned her cutie mark after the event, she went to look for Flora who was supposed to be there. She eventually found her at a garden full of plants that had just been healthy after Flora took care of them, and realizing that they both earned their cutie marks at the same time, they have stayed with each other since.

Skateboard and Flora soon met Kai, who eventually became their martial arts master. At one point, Skateboard began to develop feelings for Kai after he complimented her for her skateboarding skills, and noticing that Flora felt the same for him, she told the other trainees DJ Emo, Uni-Candy, and Lolly Pop about it, which caused all five of them to form their friendship after realizing that they had the same feelings for Kai. As a result, whenever they weren't training with him, Skateboard would usually be the one to come up with harmless tricks to play on their master.

Skateboard Jo still remained friends with the Awesome 5 after their training with Kai had ended. When the Nirik King returned to Equestria, the five of them all met Sugar Mele, whom they would later look up to as their leader. Skateboard Jo first met Sugar Mele when she was practicing her skateboard skills, and upon seeing Sugar, she slipped and was about to fall of the ramp, only for her wings to save her. Skateboard Jo also grew very fond of the Ponyville Pals, especially Star Surfer, whom she began developing romantic feelings for her later on.

After the defeat of the Nirik King, Skateboard Jo got a lot of recognition for her skateboarding skills much more than before. She even performed her Sonic Skateboom at Sugar Mele's coronation. Skateboard also learned that when it comes to competition, it doesn't matter if she wins or not as long as she's happy and gets all the support from her friends, and that she's not here to win, she's here to inspire others.
