To avoid confusion; Lavender Light is Fruity Pop's given name before she changes it.
Fruity Pop was born to a pair of high-class unicorns by the names of Sapphire Shine and Virid Dusk. They are very wealthy and respected in their community, living comfortably in a mostly unicorn-populated city.
They own a business that focuses on selling gems. The gems they sell can be used for jewelry, enchantments, and everything in-between. They have other creatures do the hard work for them; collecting the gemstones, cutting and polishing them, as well as putting enchantments on them is all done by their employees.
At some point they decided that having a child might be interesting, and it'd be good to have someone to eventually take over the business, and so Lavender Light came to be. For most of her childhood, she was cared for by a nanny, a Pegasus named Serene Sky. Serene was the only constant non-unicorn presence for a majority of her life. At a young age, Lavender Light was enrolled at a private and prestigious unicorn-only school, where she was expected to eventually learn how to master powerful magic. She wasn't particularly interested in becoming a mighty mage however. She found much more enjoyment out of enchanting ice with sweet and fruity flavors and passing them out to the other foals during lunchtime. She absolutely loved bringing joy to the others with her treats, and bringing some fun to an otherwise bland day. The faculty members unfortunately did not appreciate this. They branded this as a distraction and a misuse of her magic. When she continually questioned why, her parents were called. This would happen several times throughout her time at the academy.
When she tried to explain to her parents that she wanted to make frozen deserts instead of mastering spells, it didn't go the way she'd hoped. Virid Dusk told her that she was foolish, following her dream would be an embarrassment, and whether she liked it or not, she was going to continue attending the academy. Sapphire Shine, as if waiting for the right moment, would then chime in with a saccharine voice, assuring Lavender that her father just wanted what's best for her, and while her dream was cute, it was no future for a proper unicorn. "You want to make Mommy and Daddy proud, don't you?" And of course she did. So she told them she'd be good. Serene Sky severely disliked the parent's clear manipulation of their own daughter, but kept quiet about it, fearing that she'd be fired and then be unable to keep an eye on Lavender. She would always comfort Lavender and try to cheer her up. Lavender would eventually see Serene as more of a mother to her than Sapphire ever was.
Lavender tried her very best to adhere to her parent's and the academy's standards, but she would often slip up and get caught sneaking ice cream to other students who were having a bad day. The more she got caught, the more she got berated by her parents. Her mother's sweet facade would slowly fall as she lost her patience. Lavender became miserable. It was then she realized that making frozen desserts for others was the only thing the made her truly happy, and she wanted to be happy. This realization had earned her a cutie mark; A green and blue ice pop on her flank. She'd never been so happy! There it was, a mark symbolizing that what she loved was her true calling, her special talent. This happiness would not last, however. Her parents were absolutely furious, disgusted, embarrassed. In an act of desperation, they cast a spell to hide her cutie mark and continued sending her to the academy, but things were never the same after that. They treated her horribly, being verbally abusive whatever chance they got. Lavender's only solace was Serene Sky's soothing voice, her quiet encouragements, and feathery hugs.
Lavender Light was miserable again. To spite her parents and the academy, she began to pass out ice pops after school hours, knowing the faculty could do nothing about it. This brought some joy to her otherwise sad existence. Not too long after she had earned her cutie mark, her parents had another child. A colt that they named Midnight Agate. Even though she surmised that they had him to replace her, Lavender was incredibly grateful for him. His existence took away their parent's negative attention from her. They went from constantly berating her to ignoring her completely once her brother was born. Sapphire Shine and Virid Dusk were much more involved with Midnight Agate than they ever had been with Lavender, hoping that this one would turn out 'right'. She was not often allowed to see her little brother, but sometimes, when her parents had business out of the house, it was just her, Serene, and Midnight at home. She adored Midnight Agate and would lovingly refer to him as 'Aggie'. These brief times were some of the best memories of her life. She sometimes wished her parent's would never come back. But they always did.
Years later, when Lavender finally (and just barely) graduated, she packed her things and left. She didn't say a word to her family, but she left a note for Serene Sky.
The note reads:
Dear Serene Sky,
Thank you so much for raising me all these years. I would never have been able to figure out what I wanted if it wasn't for you.
Thank you for being there for me, and for literally taking me under your wings.
I'm sorry that I'm leaving like this, but I think this is the best for everyone.
I wish the best for you, and I hope that maybe I'll see you again, but I'm never going back there.
Take care of yourself, and take care of Aggie for me.
I love you.
- Lavender Light
Serene Sky read the note, choking back tears. She decided to keep the note, as it meant a lot to her. Virid Dusk and Sapphire Shine would find the note and fire her on the spot, blaming her for their daughter's failure. From then on, they raised Midnight Agate themselves, making sure they can mold him into exactly what they want him to be.
Lavender Light leaves her home city and experiences freedom for the first time. Using some bits she 'borrowed' from her parents, she buys a cart and changes her name to Fruity Pop. Fruity Pop now travels the continent as she pleases, cherishing her freedom. She loves meeting new people and seeing new creatures, but its not often she stays in one place for long. She makes bits selling her ice pops and often by picking up odd jobs. Although she is generally happy, her upbringing has left her with ingrained trust issues, a lack of self-worth and an aversion to committing to things. She's terrified of disappointing others and fights that fear every day when selling ice pops.
