Hi, yes, hello. I bring you all headcanons about one of my favorite villains, King Sombra, before he was, well, corrupted and what led up to his corruption. I kinda got inspired by Saphi-Boo: https://www.deviantart.com/saphi-boo headcanons about Cadence and Flurry, even though this is more focused on Sombra than anyone else lmao.
Next up(maybe), the Royal Sisters!

King Sombra(at the time Prince Sombra) was one of the original rulers of the Crystal Empire before it disappearance and Princess Cadence's rule. He ruled along side his older sister, Princess Amore. He was adopted into the Crystal Royal family after being dropped off at the castle stairway when he was a mere new born. His parents have no idea who Sombra's real parents are and neither does Sombra, but that didn't matter to him since the stallion was raised in a family with loving parents and sister.
Around his and Amore's teen years was when they met the Cantorlot Royal family. The King and Queen of Cantorlot had came to the Crystal Empire for a meeting with Sombra's and Amore's parents and had decided to bring their three children with them; Celestia, Luna, and Astelle. Out of the three children, Sombra grew fond of Celestia the most. He loved how she handled situations that came up in the kingdom, her passion of learning and teaching other ponies, and her leadership skills. Sombra had also loved Celestia herself. There was something about her that made the stallion feel butterflies in his stomach.
After their first meeting, Sombra and Celestia kept in touch. Often times, they wrote to each other back and forth, but if they had the time, they would go visit on another. Though, shortly after the deaths(due to natural causes) of Celestia's parents, she became slightly distanced, focusing on her new royal duties of being the princess of Cantorlot and Equestria. Sombra completely understood this and even offered to help Celestia time to time when she needed it. This made their bond grow stronger as time went on up until Luna was crowned princess of Cantorlot and Equestia as well. This had meant that Celestia and Sombra could spend more time together and away from their royal duties. Sombra was there for Celestia when she ascended into an alicorn and she was there for Sombra when his parents were murder by an unknown enemy. Both Amore and Sombra were heartbroken about their parents' death, but they knew they couldn't let their grief keep them from doing their royal duties.
Months following the deaths of the Emperor and Empress of the Crystal Empire, Sombra and Amore were crowned Prince and Princess of the Crystal Empire. Amore took care of the public issues and became the 'face' of the empire while Sombra handled the private and political issues, making him, well, less known among the citizens of the Crystal Empire. Of course Sombra got a little jealous of all the attention Amore got from the ponies, but that didn't cause any pony harm, or, at least Sombra didn't think it did.
One night, while Sombra was peacefully sleeping, he had a strange dream. He couldn't remember many details of his dream, all he remembers was seeing a tall figure with glowing red and green eyes. Sombra had voiced his concerns about his dream to Amore, but she simply brushed them away, too caught up in her royal duties. As time went on, Sombra kept having strange dreams, the tall figure being in each and every one of them. It didn't take long until Sombra snapped, having grown sick and tired of these dreams. He made his way to the Crystal Empire library one night and looked through every spell book in there for a spell that would get rid of the dreams. After looking for hours, Sombra was about to give up when he found a spell book that was left open on a table. Curiously, Sombra went over and saw that the book was open on a page with the spell he needed. Satisfied with his discoveries, Sombra checked out the spell book and left.
Back at the castle that very night, Sombra preformed the spell from the book, hoping it would get rid of his dreams. When he awoke the next morning, Sombra was glad to see the spell worked and had gotten rid of his dreams, but it did something else. The spell had completely changed the shape and color of Sombra's horn. It had also changed Sombra's behavior completely. He started to get more bossy and demanding, almost as if he was a king rather than a prince.
Amore confronted Sombra of his new behavior, sparking up a heated argument between the two. In a fit of rage, Sombra turned Amore into a black crystal statue and destroyed it. At first, Sombra was mortified by what he had done, but that guilty feeling soon faded into greed and power. Sombra staged the tragic death of his sister to look like his parents' murders, taking and hiding the Crystal Heart to lead the citizens of the empire deeper and deeper into his lies.
Sooner rather than later, Prince Sombra had been replaced with King Sombra, a power hungry dictator. Everything about him has changed; The color of his coat, the color of his hair, the color of his eyes, and the color of his magic aura. He was having the ponies in the Crystal Empire do his bidding and dirty work so he could focus on more important things; Taking over all of Equestria.
The Crystal Empire and Cantorlot soon got into a great battle, with the former friends, Princess Celestia and King Sombra right in front and going against each other. Once the fear of losing everything he worked hard for, Sombra performed a spell that caused himself, the crystal ponies, and the Crystal Empire itself to be wiped off the face of Equestria and every Equestrian map. No pony knows where Sombra had hidden the entire Empire. Celestia and Astelle had looked all over Equestia in hopes of finding the empire, but came up empty hoofed. The Crystal Empire became lost for many, many years until the spell wore off, revealing the lost empire once more and all the dark secrets hidden deep within it.
Rumor has it that Sombra wasn't the one to kill Amore or to cause the disappearance of the Crystal Empire, they say he was being controlled by unknown magic. They also say that Sombra's birth parents had played a part in the downfall of the empire, but hey, those are simply rumors and who knows, maybe they're true.
