A week of researching later, I finally worked out how to properly use the GIMP selection tool! XD
Yes, it's more complicated than the likes of Photoshop, but the fact I can make a selection size, then edit the selection size without affecting the image before moving what's in the selection, it's perfect for my needs! I know of wish I'd made the switch sooner.
Now, if I could just stop my scanner picking up 'white noise' in my line work that requires touching up, everything would be perfect :P
