Entry for the EQD ATG Day 13: A furious pony.
Inspired both by more headcanon as well as my favourite character and scene from my favourite book series.
While I still hold that the Peter Jackson movies are about as good an adaptation as one could hope for, I was severily disappointed by Eowyn's fight with the Witchking, sacrificing a great emotional moment for Eowyn for a second-rate one-liner.
If any of you are unfamiliar with the book version, I highly recommend giving the section a read.
Add to that that they skipped out on much of Eowyn's character arc and you get what's pretty much my biggest grievance with the series, along with taking the Army of the Dead to the Pelennor fields and writing in a bit too much comic relief for Gimli.
That being said, the final dialouge between Legolas and Gimli makes up for a lot of that. #icryeverytime
Headcanon-rambling starts here:
Anyway, I always considered Starswirl to be somewhat of a mixture of Gandalf and Merlin from the Once and future King series (for a glimpse of that, see Disney's The Sword in the Stone); a figure somewhat disconnected from the normal flow of time (seeing as he was around during the founding of Equestria, but considered young by the time Tirek and Scorpan came around), wandering Equestria and giving things the occasional shove in the right direction.
One of said shoves would have been grooming two young alicorns to be the rulers that a chaosridden Equestria needed.
Also Celestia's heraldry is showing the Tree of Harmony instead of the Sun & Moon, as she and Luna aren't Princesses yet at this point.
