I'm at my folks' place right now, just a few blocks from where I live, and got the idea for this while patrolling their backyard gardens for Japanese beetles. These are pesky invasive insects over much of North America that skeletonize the leaves (especially of plants in the rose family, such as raspberry bushes or apple trees), that the spiders just can't keep up with, and that few birds know what to do with. To make matters worse, the traps that are out there backfire by attracting so many more than they catch.
