One night in family's boutique, Rarity is preparing for a date with Firestar, someone she's had a crush on for a while and only now worked up the nerve to ask out. Since her parents are out of town for two weeks and Sweetie Belle is sleeping over at Scootaloo's, tonight seems like the perfect night. However, just as she finishes putting on her makeup, she hears someone enter the shop. The stranger turns out to be Firestar's sister, Golden Spiral (or simply 'Goldie'), whom Rarity has met previously. Goldie explains that she came in to check on Rarity before the fashionista's date with her brother and asks how she's feeling about it. When Rarity claims that she's feeling nervous, Goldie (a professional hypnotist) offers to hypnotize Rarity to make her forget her stress, to which Rarity agrees.

After looking at Goldie's swinging watch and focusing on her voice for a few minutes, Rarity is guided into a deep hypnotic sleep. Once her subject in under, Goldie reveals her true intentions: since she believes Rarity is undeserving of Firestar's attention, the hypnotist intends on making Rarity do something humiliating and recording it to show her brother, hoping that he'll stay away from her forever. To that end, Goldie instructs the hypnotized Rarity to act like a chicken on the count of three. After Goldie counts to three, Rarity suddenly opens her eyes, jumps to her feet, and starts strutting around the room, clucking loudly with her arms folded like wings. As this whole event unfolds, Goldie pulls out her phone and starts recording her victim's actions. After getting at least 3 minutes of footage, Goldie sends the video to her brother, claiming Rarity was acting like this when she came in to check on her. Then, she tells Rarity to stop and return to her seat, which she does. Goldie then gives Rarity the following orders: she will go upstairs to her bedroom and go to sleep for the night. When she wakes up the following morning, she will no longer be hypnotized and she will have no memory of her date of the events of that night. The hypnotized fashionista obeys and heads up the stairs to her family's apartment. Downstairs, Goldie begins to head for home to check on Firestar; though not before she swipes a few bottles of Rarity's high-quality nail polish off the makeup counter….
