A bit spoiler-y to those that haven't seen it yet, but here is my contribution to celebrating the series finale of Friendship is Magic. Without a doubt one of, if not the biggest "don't judge a book by its cover" example for children's cartoons of the past decade.
Spanning 200+ episodes across 9 seasons, a theatrical film with a spinoff series, all fuelled by an unexpected and unusual fandom. I don't think it's a stretch to say that the 4th generation of My Little Pony really was a massive success for Hasbro. Though the show's highs and lows, it left a pretty big mark in fans that stuck with it since it began, and I have to admit; I too felt a little bit nostalgic knowing that the series would get a proper closure before watching the last few episodes.
Even though I wasn't/still not that big into the fanbase, projects like PonyKart I'll never be able to forget, as it managed to give me my first taste of what indie game development was like. Despite the project never getting finished, the work I did for it managed to prove my skills for future endeavours. So really, I do owe quite a bit to this once purely girly series.
But hey, now that the show has ran its course, perhaps I'll revisit that old idea someday and do some concept revamping, now that timejump versions of the characters exist?
In the meantime, heres to Friendship is Magic and the impact it has left on us! The show may be done, but lets hope the fan creations will keep on going!
