Guest Author's Note: "It's regrettably easy to get stuck in your head when you're playing an RPG, as a GM or as a player. One of the reasons I try to run one shots while I'm running a longer form campaign is so that I keep myself shaken, and prevent myself from getting too settled. The more wild and stupid the one shot, the better.

It's even better when the players embrace their role as the agent of chaos. Not in the alignment sense of the term, but in the meta sense. Because even the most Lawful Good Player Character in existence can be an agent of chaos. So long as they are affecting the world, and letting the world affect them, that push and pull forces the GM and the Players to try something new.

DM: I…guess it makes sense that she’d end up a character there too. Sunset was supposed to be a GM tool just as much as a PC.
Twilight Sparkle: Wait, so…Twilight’s backstory was supposed to be helpful for you?
DM: Yeah. The idea was a PC that could know the world more…naturally. Keep things from going too far off rails.
Twilight Sparkle: …oh.
DM: It’s fine. You were new. They’d been listening to my world building for a few months. I’d bounced a lot of ideas off of them. It’s why I was fine lending them my notes. But if it took this long for them to get a game together…they’ve had a lot of time to get stuck in their head about how things are “supposed” to play out.
Twilight Sparkle: That’s sounding pretty bad.
DM: Well…
