When Dropkick was a colt, he wasn't called Dropkick at all, he was called "Blue Amethyst Quartz" because it's tradition that ponies in the Crystal Empire have gem related names in some way or the other.

He had a sister, who's name is Amethyst or "Amy" for short. As foals, they competed for everything and this was one of those times.
