Backstory: Sugar Mele was born and raised in Cloudsdale to inventor father Gears, jeweler mother Angel Star, and video game enthusiast and designer brother Markus as a Pegasus. She originally wanted to follow her brother's steps as a video game designer due to their love of video games, and she still loves video games to this day, but she unintentionally ended up becoming an entertainer after her mishaps made so many of her classmates laugh at school. Despite her love of entertaining, however, it didn't prevent the conflicts she faced at school, so her family decided to move out of Cloudsdale and into a small neighborhood near a lake in Ponyville, and have her homeschooled there while Markus went to school.

During the first few months, Sugar witnessed a mysterious Kirin in front of their home at night, yet none of her family members seemed to notice. Out of curiosity, she decided to go out alone at night to find the Kirin. At one point, however, she was confronted by a pack of timberwolves about to attack her, only to be saved by the same Kirin using martial arts skills against them. Once the Kirin revealed himself as Kai, Sugar became friends with him and was inspired to be a martial artist just like him.

Throughout much of her childhood, Sugar and Kai would spend time together whenever she was finished with her homeschooling. Kai also became friends with Markus. However, one night, Sugar had a nightmare about Kai being turned into a Nirik, causing her to temporarily end her friendship with him. Little did she know, however, the nightmare was actually a warning sign that the Nirik King was going to return to Equestria, so when Sugar became a teenager, she relied on Kai and served for him as an apprentice, although she still lacked feelings for him during that time.

Eventually, Kai set her out to Ponyville to make friends with DJ Emo, Uni-Candy, Skateboard Jo, Flora, and Lolly Pop, who were all previous trainees. Despite how "different" Sugar was from the rest of her group, they became very good friends, and they worked together to fight against the Nirik King, though not without the help of the Ponyville Pals. During the fight, however, Sugar learned that battles can be won without fighting, and with the magic of friendship, the Awesome 6 were able to defeat the Nirik King, who was revealed to be Kai's father. After the reunion between Kai and his father, a magical spirit turned Sugar Mele into an Alicorn princess, in which Sugar learned that her leadership and efforts had inspired others to stand with her while also allowing them to be themselves.

Sugar restored her friendship with Kai since her coronation, and her friendships with the Awesome 6 and the Ponyville Pals had been a lot stronger than before. Although she had to get used to doing magic, at least it was easier for her to use a microphone without standing too close to it during her stand-up acts. It should be worth noting that her cutie mark changes depending on her mood as an Alicorn (Sugar first thought that it was a medical issue, but it was soon revealed that it was a result of the magic that she had as an Alicorn). She eventually falls in love with Kai after years of convincing herself that she was the only member of the Awesome 6 to not find him attractive or have a crush on him.

Sugar Mele was one of my very first MLP OCs. I created her sometime either in 2013 or 2014 (This was before I joined DA). While creating her, I projected a lot of myself into the character, and even had her as my main MLP OC at some point, but it wasn't until Alyssa Rice came along who became my main MLP OC since 2015. Despite this, I will always love Sugar Mele just as equally as the rest of my OCs.
