As with other fawnponds she was a regular doe before becoming one. She was born on a January afternoon and was named based on her family's traditional naming scheme, which came from her mother December Dusk's side. She has one younger brother, September Evening.

How she became a Fawnpond:
Her family used to live in a mansion in a forest when she was young and always looked after and played amongst the nature. However after a bad financial decision their family business collapsed and they had to move out. As she grew older Jan began to make trips back to visit and was horrified by how the new owners were treating the wildlife and polluting the surroundings. She vowed to do something about it.
One day a fortune teller told her that her time was coming. So she sold all her possessions and took all her money to buy back the mansion and surrounding land, spending what she thought were her last days single-hoofedly attempting to clean and revitalise the forest and the pond inside it. However even her best efforts were to no avail, she couldn't restore the place to its former glory.
On the day the fortune teller had prophesied she would pass on, she instead woke up as a Fawnpond. She witnessed a pond pony restoring the pond by sacrificing her water, and realised she herself also had powers. Using her newfound abilities she slowly brought the damaged plants back to life.
