Indigo Finch is the prodigy child of Sunset Shimmer and Spearhead and the first Alicorn born outside of Royalty.
Despite her birth species, Indigo has had to fight and scrounge just as hard as her peers if not more so. She was not born with Alicorn magic and instead grew more powerful with age.
Because of her appearance, ponies have been unnecessarily cruel to her and distant. She stood out like a sore thumb and had to prove her worth on a regular basis.
For the first 10-12 years of her life, her family lived in poverty. Sunset and Spearhead distanced themselves from the crown to live more natural and fulfilling lives. Sunset was an author and Spear an artist. As an Alicorn, Indigo was a constant target for harassment. Her only respite was with her little brother Crystal and one of her eventual many dogs Chickadee.

She grew into a very resentful filly in this environment and her parents feared that she'd go into a downward spiral if they didn't intervene. However, they didn't know how far down the rabbit hole she had gone.

Spear spoke to his lil bro Flash who got her and Crystal into the Royal Bootcamp. Crystal eventually dropped out and distanced himself from his family but Indigo stayed on. Her mentors included her uncle Flash, Captain Tempest, and eventually King Shining Armour. She went from being a violent and chaotic teen to a cold and cutthroat Officer of the Royal Guard.
She's now one of the youngest Captains to ever serve the Royal Guard and she's often found accompanying Queen Luna on Diplomatic missions and/or any Royal journey that requires brute force.

Some facts:

-Indigo out-ranks her Uncle Flash in skill however he has seniority.

-The Guerrier Royal Shepherd [GRS pronounced grrrs] is a breed of dog that Indigo herself created. It's a very healthy breed that is known for its intensity and aggression. Average people cannot legally own this breed as it requires a strong handler. They are basically a domesticated Hellhound sans horns.

-Indigo is extremely serious and cold with nearly everyone but she has a soft spot for her various dogs. She's owned and bred hundreds but her two current babies are Jackdaw and Egret.

-Sometimes Indigo dissociates and loses hours of time. This happens less with age and it's unclear what the cause is and where she disappears.

-Indigo declared war on crime and aggressively pursues criminals. Petty or nefarious, Indigo treats them to the same level of intensity.

-Those blueish tufts on her hooves and around her neck aren't decorations. Those are her feathers. In time, she will be covered head to hoof in them.

-Two of her childhood bullies went missing when Indigo was young and you may think the resentment towards them went away too. NOPE. In fact, Indigo now makes it her mission to hunt down one of her tormentor's little brother's Ollie.
Ollie is a criminal linked to some seriously shady syndicates and Indigo wants his head.
