"Once the King of the Hippogriffs, Waverider ruled with his wife Queen Novo and their young daughter Princess Skystar in harmony. In addition, he was also the head of the Royal Hippogriff Navy during his youth, and mainly kept the kingdom safe from harm while Novo was more diplomatic and attended meetings. Despite this, Waverider is a gentle soul, kind and understanding, and has a love for adventure and risk, something that often makes the overly cautious Novo worried. Waverider and Novo were extremely close, and he managed to help her overcome certain obstacles, and the pair discovered the abandoned and ancient city of Seaquestria together. It wasn't until that faithful day, when the Storm King invaded Mount Aris that things took a turn for the worst. Despite their best efforts, the hippogriffs could not overcome the size and ferocity of the Storm Guard, and not wanting to risk any casualties to his side, Waverider ordered the Navy to retreat while the other griffs evacuate to the safety of Seaquestria. Novo and Waverider made a valiant stand against the Storm King, but it was all for naught, as he used one of his Obsidian Spheres on Waverider, causing him to turn to stone. And, with the swing of a massive hammer, struck the fatal blow to the Hippogriff King, shattering him into pieces. Novo was completely devastated, and fearing that the same thing would happen to her, she ended up fleeing, reuniting with the others only to break the bad news. Novo was never able to get over Waverider's death, and it greatly affected her when she and her people went underwater. She became more reclusive, overprotective, and a tad bitter, and she always felt tremendous guilt, harboring a grudge against the Storm King, but was frightened of being detected and having history repeat itself.
When the hippogriffs resurfaced following the Storm King's defeat, a statue was placed in the center of Mount Aris to honor Waverider. Novo still had a hard time accepting that her husband was truly gone, but with help from Celestia and Skystar, she managed to move on, knowing that Waverider would want to see the kingdom prosper again, and that he would want her to be happy.
So for a while I always wondered what the Hippogriff King would look like, and after writing my FIMFiction story (which had a part that detailed the Storm King's invasion of Mount Aris), I felt like it would be a good time to draw out Waverider."
