Years ago, Sunset Shimmer was Princess Celestia's prized student, renowned for her incredible magical talent. As her studies continued, however, she became ruthless in her pursuit of greater power. Because of her increasing greed and lust for power Sunset Shimmer was expelled from Celestia's teachings, and banned from continuing her magical studies.

Years later, upon witnessing Twilight Sparkle's coronation, Sunset Shimmer swore revenge, and vowed to eradicate both Celestia and her newest student.

Sunset was soon approached by a dark god known only as Ganon, who bestowed upon her the power she needed to complete the task…
