"Trottings Lane, Trottings Lane…" she muttered frantically to herself. It had to be around her somewhere, right? She wracked her brain to remember what the letter said… was it a right instead of a left down Saddle Drive? Her eyes scanned over another sign, just barely catching the words "Trottings Lane" as she flew right by it. There!
Coming to a skidding stop in flight, Hearts did a rushed u-turn which resulted in a gust of wind knocking some napkins off a table. There was an irritated glare shot her way as Hearts Desire rushed down the road she was looking for. Her bright crystal eyes scanned down the shops on the right, looking for the one shop she said they would meet at…
"Twilight!" she suddenly exclaimed, eyes landing on the lavender mare. Twilight Sparkle's eyes looked up to meet Hearts Desire's.
"There you are," the Princess of Friendship chirped with a smile as her friend landed in front of her. "I was getting worried you wouldn't show!" the Crystal Alicorn's face tinged pink at this.
"Yeah, sorry…" she apologized, rubbing her neck with a hoof. "Got a little caught up in something and hadn't realized I was running behind." This was true, Heart's Desire had been caught up in reading over letters she had exchanged with the Princess of Friendship. Many of them had included questions for each other — questions about the Crystal Empire from Twilight (after Hearts Desire had insisted it was okay to ask after Twilight knew she had been through a rough patch when King Sombra had trapped her father away) and questions about Equestria from Hearts Desire.
Hearts was very surprised to see the proposal to meet in Canterlot after a few letters. Twilight explained she enjoyed their time together the last time they met, and she proposed it would be a good way to get to know each other. This was suggested instead of writing back and forth which took time to deliver since Hearts didn't have a dragon of her own to flame deliver them.
The Crystal Alicorn was very eager to accept Twilight's proposal and wrote back (in very rushed scrawl) that she would love to meet at the Princess' earliest convenience.
"That's quite alright, as long as you showed up at all!" Twilight laughed and turned to walk. "So, shall we get going? I thought perhaps you would be interested in touring the local library since we didn't get a chance to last time." she suggested with a smile. Hearts returned the gesture and followed after her.
She had a feeling this would be a good day.
