Occupation: Student/Aspiring Game Developer/Occasional tech inventor.

Using a gender-altering spell, Princess Twilight and Tempest were able to have a foal together. Nova ended up the youngest of all of the royal children. Even before he was born, Twilight was so excited for her kiddo that she ended up writing up four different lists one for each possible race her prince could end up being — in order to plan her lessons (way) ahead of time.

-Nova got into gaming at a young age after he noticed other young foals’ gaming consoles. It was inspirational to him, the joy of playing by oneself and sharing the experience with others, and it was something that clicked with him right away. Twilight happily gifted him the games upon his eager request, assuming he would enjoy it and then eventually grow out of it once he got older.

Constant doting and high treatment as a prince got to Nova’s young mind. Although an eager to learn colt, Nova began developing a self-absorbed and somewhat vain mindset. Luckily he was scolded by Twilight whenever she caught him acting out, but it wasn’t until her royal lessons truly began that Nova started to understand the role that was predetermined for him the role of a prince, as well as Twilight’s future heir.

-Nova truly did try to understand his mother’s responsibilities as the friendship princess. However, attempting to offer friendship advice and having it sought from him became a very awkward, unnatural endeavor, almost like it had to be forced. Despite Twilight’s efforts to make her royal lessons exciting and educational, the idea of having Equestria’s wellbeing on his shoulders and leading subjects didn’t sit right inside Nova. The feeling only grew as royal lessons took up more and more of his time and ponies began to treat him more formally. They also began to project their idea of what a prince should be like onto him (ie. being too old for “childish” games).

-Growing up, Prince Amadeus became Nova’s best friend as they bonded over gaming and could relate to one another’s stresses as princes. They always felt they could be themselves around one another. Amadeus’s coronation day became the moment that Nova realized he couldn’t bring himself to become an heir like the other royal children. No matter how he thought about it, the idea of being a prince and being trapped in that position after gaining a crown felt wrong at his core.

-Through the years, Nova had struggled to bring up any of his concerns and stresses with his excitable alicorn mother, and thus gentle and patient mama Tempest was always his go-to pony for venting and relaxing. She was also the one to coax him into confessing his feelings to Twilight.

-The conversation was a rocky one, with Twilight having a hard time digesting and understanding Nova’s desire to outright drop his title of prince AND leave Ponyville to attend a tech school in Canterlot instead (where he wouldn’t be recognized as much). Despite the conversation leaving some tensions between her and her son, Twilight pushed her uncertainty and mixed feelings aside in favor of Nova’s happiness.

-Twilight still worries over Nova’s future. However, she also feels guilt over letting him down through her obliviousness and initial lack of support. She's convinced that Nova surely still carries lingering feelings of anger towards her. And although he doesn’t regret his decision, a part of Nova genuinely believes Twilight couldn't possibly fully forgive him or love him as much as she used to after disappointing her and throwing away all her efforts. The two fail to communicate their feelings, choosing to give the other space instead.

-Nova’s dream is to develop his own gaming console as well as his own games. In the meantime, as he creates prototypes, Nova plays a variety of games and consoles in his dorm (sometimes joined by Amadeus during the prince’s free time) for his own enjoyment and to gather information on do’s and dont’s.

-Nova’s vision isn’t too bad and he can easily go without wearing his glasses. But Nova discovered that wearing his glasses along with clothes that hide his cutie mark can keep most middle-lower class Canterlot ponies from identifying him as Twilight’s son for some strange reason.
