whenever i see sunset shimmer's story progression, i keep comparing her to 'hisashi mitsui' from 'slam dunk'. it's not a 100% compatibility but i'll list the reasons why:
1. talented but their impatience led to their start of darkness (sunset wanting to learn advanced magic way too soon. mitsui wanting to play basketball too soon after an injury, making the injury worse).
2. became delinquent/bully.
3. suffered a breakdown after their defeat (sunset had a much more public one, but mitsui had a more personal one when he got to see his mentor again.)
4. Their heel-face turn enabled their respective teams to win (though mitsui delivering a game winning performance was during the preliminaries of their basketball tournament, while sunset was during the critical moment of theirs).


not if only sunset will lose her two front teeth, then the comparison would be complete.
