Name: Ghajini Pronounced Ga-ji-ni or Ga-zni, like the ji makes a z sound.

Nickname: The few friends he has call him Gaz for short.

Parents: Gilda and, (for now),Un-named Father

Foster Parents: Rainbow Dash and Dumbbell

Appearance: Based on the Bateleur eagle.


Brief aside: Ghajini was born during a tumultuous time in griffon history. After Rainbow Dashs and Pinkie Pies visit to Griffonstone, Gilda and the other griffons in that region regained a sense of community through friendship and delicious biscuits. Slowly Griffonstone was rebuilt from the ground up. (Er, branch up?) And it is now the most stable of Griffon-kinds societies. But it is still a far cry from reaching its full potential. Only when true harmony is achieved will the tree come alive again and bloom.

Though the efforts of Rainbow and Pinkie Pie are a step in the right direction, it is still a small step, and generally as is the case with these cutie mark callings, it is up to the people being helped to decide which path they choose to go down. Gilda and the rest of Griffonstone have made their choice but they arent the only ones who have a say in the matter.

Ever since the loss of the Idol of Boreas, a large chunk of griffon society has scattered to the winds, in the form of clans, tribes, and in some cases, even gangs. The other kingdoms have gone silent as their people reverted back to the base desire of greed. Disharmony and lawlessness soon followed. And this has been going on for hundreds of years.


It is Gildas ambition to change this through peaceful means, but the grim reality of the situation is obvious. Its too dangerous for her son, even Griffonstone could be attacked. So she reluctantly does the only thing she knows to do, the same thing her parents did when the climate of Yonder became too dangerous, she sends Ghajini to Equestria to live with the pony she trusts the most, promising to return one day when Yonder is safe.


Personality: You can take the boy out of the rough, but you cant take the rough out of the boy. Ghajini is more than that weird foreign kid when it comes to the colts and fillies his age. Ghajini gives off the air of a predator. And while he does not mean it, he doesnt feel particularly bad about it either. To some he is down right dangerous, his appearance hitting some deeply buried instinct in the minds of ponies, to run as far and as fast as possible. Sharing a playground with him is the equivalent of walking into a dark room covered in Shelob sized cobwebs. You know youre going to get pounced, its just a matter of when. To put it lightly, when you know Ghajini is around but you DONT see him. Worry.

Ghajini is aggressive and crude, from foals to adults, he usually doesnt return greetings, will address any kind of reprimand with a challenge, and the only game he likes is play-fighting. On average he is stronger and more agile than most other foals, making him cocky, arrogant, and not easily friend-able. Some of this could theoretically be fueled by a none too subtle disrespect for ponies. Even though Gilda speaks highly of them, and he knows that she left him in their care for his own safety, a part of him resents his parents for what he feels is abandonment. These are traits that Rainbow Dash and Dumbbell pick up on immediately, since they are all things they have dealt with in their own pasts.

Hobbies: Reading, fishing, wrestling, and calligraphy.


Likes:

Sparklies and shinies. He has this in common with Spike though he doesnt eat gems, he still has the urge to hoard. Another problem Dumbbell and Dash had to deal with, as he would often steal food from their pantry and hide it under his bed. Or worse, valuables from other ponies. Hes banned from Raritys boutique for pretty much the rest of forever.

Swimming. Even Though hes half feline, the wet stuff doesnt bother him at all. Compounded by the fact that Hightide will push him into it whenever the opportunity presents itself, and he is quite an accomplished swimmer. Sometimes being alone in Ponyville lake is where he likes to be most.

Poetry. A lot of the hard fought battle stuff, none of that namby pamby hearts and flowers nonsense.

Cherry. But he feels weird about the way he likes her. And she doesnt like him back the same way, (if at all), which is probably for the best because due to the circumstances, this is kinda weird. And because griffons are so prideful of their own race, cross-species romance is frowned upon.


Helpful Notes: Gazs need to hoard isnt due to Reactive Attachment Disorder or something dreadful like that. He loves Gilda dearly and he wasnt mistreated. Its an instinctual behavior that hasnt been trained out of him, and now in a new and strange environment, its flaring up something fierce.

His name is based on Mahmud of Ghazni, an ancient ruler who made many many attempts to take over India. The name Ghazni itself doesnt have a meaning I think. Like how Evangelyn means good news in Greek. But I figured the name could mean persistence, and never giving up., to reflect Gildas dream for griffon reunification, and what's shes willing to do to achieve this goal.

At first I was going to name him Gazini which is African for blood, but figured thats way too much edge, and then Google did the whole Do you mean this…? thing which gave me Ghajini. They sound alot alike, but I assume they are different.

Also I watched the movie Ghajini. Its a good movie. Everyone should watch it. I decided to take the movies spelling because it looks nicer to me.

PS: "Yonder" is the name of the place where all the griffons live more or less. Well that probably isn't the real name. But ponies always say "You gotta go over Yonder to find griffons." And the name just stuck.
