It was a typical morning and Storm was cooking breakfast as usual, with baby Emerald Ignite perched on her shoulders to watch. Her twins had just gone off to school, allowing her and her wife some time to have a relatively quiet breakfast to themselves, with only the baby keeping their attention divided.
However, Emmy seemed to be the least of Storm’s problems, as she wasn’t the one who was fussy.
“Stormy, dear, be careful with Emmy!” Radiant Jewel called out fretfully.
“I am babe, relax,” Storm crooned lovingly. “I got this.”
Emmy proceeded to climb up on Storm’s head just as she flipped the hot mini-pancakes. Jewel gasped dramatically.
“I will NOT relax! She’s going to fall! Or worse, get burnt! Do you even know what you’re doing?”
“Yes, honey dearest, I’ve got it all under control,” Storm rolled her eyes. “This isn’t my first rodeo, you know.”
“Well yes, but still!”
“Listen, the twins fell off a CLOUD when they were TWO WEEKS OLD. Their father dropped them. And did they die?”
“No-“
“Exactly! But I freaked out just like you!” Storm put the frying pan down, tossing Emmy up in the air and catching her. “You get used to it, y’know? You just gotta trust that you know what you’re doing. And if they get in little scrapes, no biggie, they’ll be fine. Gotta help ‘em learn, right?” She walked over to Jewel and planted a kiss on her cheek, handing the baby over to her.
Jewel pondered this a bit. “I suppose. Just…be careful, alright?”
Storm chuckled. “‘Course, Jewel. It’s only your first time, after all.”
