Among both DMs and players alike, forgetting a few small rules isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if what you're doing at the moment is intuitive and doesn't break the game's balance.
The opposite sometimes becomes an issue: People tend to remember very specific rulings at the worst possible time. Like, for instance, when you're in the middle of planning (or executing!) a crucial strategy.
Transcript:Twilight Sparkle: It’s time. And I’ve got it all planned out!
DM: Do tell.
Twilight Sparkle: Rainbow Dash will fly up and start clearing the smoke. We’ll be able to breathe and see easier that way.
Rainbow Dash: Huh, that’s actually pretty smart. Alright!
Twilight Sparkle: If things go wrong, Pinkie Pie will distract the dragon, allowing Rarity to get her sneak attack.
Pinkie Pie: I’ve got JUST the thing for a distraction! TADAAAA!
Rarity: You… actually brought…? Oh heavens, she’s a LARPer.
SFX: (squeak!)
Applejack: …Anyway. Ah’m guessin’ Ah’ll mark the dragon as mah quarry?
Twilight Sparkle: Exactly. But it shouldn’t come to that, because Fluttershy and I should be able to–
Fluttershy: AnimalEmpathydoesn’tworkondragons.
