Ahhh Prince Lilac. I love him. And so do his Royal subjects.
Since birth, Lilac has been in the limelight. His mother Luna wanted Equestria to love her boy as well as her wife Autumn Blaze so they raised him very openly for the public to see. They brought him to Royal Gala's and events, so Equestria got used to his presence.
Lilac is now loved by the public and seen as the ruler ushering in a new day, so to speak. He's one of the first mix species leaders alongside Ethereal but he's seen as more palatable by old Equestrians. In most ways Lilac looks like a pony while Ethereal [who was also born out of wedlock] was not introduced until she was a toddler and always resembled a cat. Poor Effie grew up with more draconeequs features, and while she's not disliked, Lilac is preferred.

For once, the Lunar house is being celebrated by Equestria at large!
