The reason Sunset wanted to be Ruler of Equestria, was because ponies killed her parents and Celestia didn't do anything about it. The reason her mother had 'queen' in her name, was because there used to be a species of dragons that were changed into ponies when their kingdom fell 1,000 years ago and they were the royal family.
