Page 1078 — Style and Substance
(Me, late at night, writing this): Hmm. The people who know me often hear my voice as the DM in this comic. I wonder if anyone will point out the way this looks like I'm writing a fanfic-y scenario where John de Lancie compliments my DMing style?
Nah, they'll probably just be too busy pedantically pointing out that the phrase is 'moth to a flame. I'll be fine.
Transcript:Applejack: Three pristine apples in the path, y'all said? Just… sittin' there?
DM: At first. As you trot towards them, they start rolling away, as if the ground had tilted beneath them.
Applejack: …Oh, shoot. Mah cutie mark is three apples, isn't it? And even mah Element of Honesty has the form of one… Welp. No bait like Element-shaped bait.
DM: You follow the apples?
Applejack: Like a moth to a bulb, yes.
DM: The apples lead you down a series of twists and turns before the path suddenly opens up into a vast orchard, so wide that it seems like fog is obscuring any of the other hedge walls.
Applejack: Ah'm really not likin' this precedent we're settin' where you can just lead me anywhere with mah dang namesake and job. Also, y'all can switch narrators now. It's obvious this is Discord's doin'.
Discord GM: No no! I like this take on it. So dry, yet with an undercurrent of menace.
DM: W-Well thank you!
