With the major exception of the cinematography, Dorothy's companions (to a point), and any scene Margaret Hamilton shows up in, the Wizard of Oz is one of those films that really does show some rather glaring issues for being a classic. Judy Garland is wooden as hell in just about every scene when she's not blubbering, the plot relies on everyone in Oz being cripplingly stupid, the Munchkins are so tremendously awful that I hated them a loooong time before Wicked made it cool, and then there's Billie Burke. Oh dear God, I cannot quantify in words how much I hated Billie Burke at the end of this movie. She's like a freaking wind-up doll and has one note — doped on valium, that she maintains throughout the movies with the same. Damn. Voice. FOREVER. Lady, you shared the time period with Mae West and Ingrid freaking Bergman. You have NO excuse!

Oh, and the ending. Don't let anyone fool you, L. Frank Baum had some serious cajones for creating this elaborate fantasy world and sticking to it for 14 books. The only balls this movie had was the balls to end the movie with "None of the events mattered and Dorothy got concussed so hard she had a personality wipe from just dreaming a lot." Twilight didn't get away with it, Sucker Punch didn't get away with it, and Inception had to build an entire universe with established rules and concepts in order to get away with it. C'mon, don't go all Vertigo on us, people! Show some guts! Your movie may be crippled and its antagonists the most likeable characters, but at least TRY.

Although I must admit, at least they had the good foresight not to include the Wogglebug, whom I would only ever use to get him killed mid-pun. :D
