Hey, another question, this one of no real importance. I was wondering if Manebooru does/will possibly someday allow for fan works to have detailed descriptions, similar to Derpibooru (I know you must be sick of hearing "will this Derpi feature be used" but here we are…) As an example, on Derpi the "oc:brownie bun" tag explains briefly who she is and has a small picture of her. And if that is something Manebooru wants to include, what is the criteria of notability for a tag to get that?

The reason I'm asking is I recently uploaded 103 images to my own "series:who we become" tag, and I'm a vain bitch who wants to feel special about herself with a detailed description lmao. I get that stuff like this probably isn't a priority right now, and even if it's not an intended feature at all I'm not stressing it, I just figured I'd ask.

Hi, I'm uploading some art from a friend who deleted all their pony accounts. They left the fandom and don't want to be involved with it in any way, but I do have permission to post their art related to my characters/stories on boorus, and I decided to make Manebooru the home for all art related to my stories (so long as I have artist permission).

Anyway, the description for the Manebooru Original tag says it should be used when a piece of art is posted to Manebooru first. This art was previously posted to Tumblr, but that Tumblr has been deleted. Would it be appropriate to use the Manebooru Original tag, as this is the only site the art will be on, or should I omit the tag because I'm not the artist and it was previously uploaded elsewhere? And if I omit the tag, what's the correct way to do it? Dead source, perhaps?

The kelpies in season 10 arc 1 look nothing like the ones from actual mythology, or that issue of the comics that focuses on the Mane 6's pets. As a result, I'm considering making a "kelpie (s10)" tag. However, it might not see much use because no-one reads the comics. What do you think?

I can’t figure out how to view nsfw images, I assume they exist do to not being able to see all the images associated with a given tag.

Let's have a little chat about accountability, trust, and the way our moderation team works.

As many of you know, we were contacted yesterday by an artist whose artwork had been edited without authorization and posted onto the Booru without proper attribution during its testing phase. Because the specific moderator contacted was also the editor of the work, they recused themselves and handed the issue off to the rest of the moderation team, who dealt with the issue in under an hour. The art in question was removed immediately from the site, and other artwork by the artist was removed from the site at their request. At the time of writing, a formal Do-Not-Post has not been filed, but the team is enforcing an unofficial DNP on all works by this artist until a formal DNP is created at the artist's discretion. I have personally been in communication with the artist and we are working together to figure out what we can do to make this right.

The Manebooru team stands by the moderation actions taken in response to this issue, but we acknowledge that it was a severe oversight that led us to this situation in the first place. We take the trust of our users seriously, and the trust of the art community as a whole is very important to us. It's hard to run an art site founded on the idea that artists come first if we don't keep a close eye on our own activities and potentially infringe on someone else's work.

This fandom has seen enough drama in recent months. We can't express how disappointed we are in ourselves for contributing to some of it in this manner. Nothing we can say or do now will change what happened in the past. All we can do is work hard to rectify the situation and take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again.

As always, our lines of communication are open for feedback. We are constantly working to improve ourselves and this site, and we want to hear your thoughts.

we wrote a tool which can automatically import your art from other imageboards (for example derpibooru) into Manebooru. It mostly automatically filters out stuff which is not allowed here on this site and also adjusts tags if needed.
Image IDs are copied and descriptions contain the original description, who uploaded it when and how many favorites/upvotes it had.

If you want your art to be imported, please either send us an email (see https://manebooru.art/pages/contact ), contact me on Discord, or (if you are verified already) post your artist name tag here in the forum.

We can also import the art of your favorite artists, if you asked them for permission and have a screenshot, a public tweet or similar as proof.

This is only an optional offer, which is supposed to help you migrate your content and thus get more people to see your art!

This thread will be used to describe and explain badges as they are made. Requesting them is also allowed in this thread, if you fulfill the requirements and somehow don't have the badge already.

Did you try to upload a .mp4 file and you got an error that looks a lot like this?

That's because Philomena only supports WebM video, and transcoding is extremely hardware-intensive to do on the server side.

So how do I upload videos, then?
If you have a .mp4 file, you can search online for many online conversion tools, such as Convertio or CloudConvert. The default settings should be good enough, but you will need to change the audio codec (see below).

If your file is too large to upload to an online conversion tool, Handbrake is a powerful encoding tool that's available on all platforms. (It's a frontend for ffmpeg, so if you're familiar with that software Handbrake should be fairly straightforward).

Please use the following settings when transcoding:
Video codec: vp9 (sometimes called libvpx-vp9)
Audio codec: vorbis (opus is the default, but not all browsers support it yet, so your video might not have sound!)

You may have uploaded something and now you notice that you can't see it.

Default filters keep out new images for a short amount of time in case of mistagging, to prevent people from seeing content they shouldn't. It's currently set to 10 minutes, for the beta it might still be overkill but in the future it might not be enough. We do not know what volume of activity to expect or how quick mistags will be fixed.

This box that shows up right after an upload will soon be updated to include the same explanation. Hopefully it won't be easy to miss.

If you want to remove this condition in your own filter and don't know how, erase the text in thet last box when editing a filter, titled "Complex Hide Filter", or edit it to your own preferences.

You may have noticed our administration team is all canon characters. We have decided to separate out the administration responsibilities into their own accounts to avoid accidentally doing something while moderating or otherwise using the site that could break something. The moderator responsible for the administrator account is noted in their profile; for example, I am responsible for the Flurry_Heart account. These accounts have separate and distinct logins, and only the user listed in their profiles have access to them.

The only exception to this is the Twilight account, which is under the control of @Twilight#0511 on the site development team who does not perform any moderation (only administration for development work), so they do not have a moderator account.

If/when a moderator who is responsible for an administrator account retires, their administration account will be permanently banned from the site.

We've thought it would be fun to let the users and the community design these for the site.

If you would like to make and submit a spoiler image to be used for a specific tag, please use this thread for it. There is only one requirement which is to be consistent. We would like all of them to have the same border or the same font text. That will probably be decided by the first one we choose so please follow that example.

As for the selection process, we don't want to overly complicate something so simple. We'll use it if it's well designed, consistent and we like it, then give the creator an exclusive badge for it.

The G5 tag was created because inevitably it will be needed. Unlike the other generational tags, this tag will be subject to stricter control: tagging something with G5 will automatically imply and add the Speculation tag. Removing this tag from the picture will be considered a breach of Rule 3c unless it comes from an official source, which must be included and linked.

This is because, as of right now, we have 0 information on G5 and it looks like that trend will continue for a long while. Even the leaks from three and a half years ago don't count as official for our definition, they are so old there's nothing to say any of it is relevant anymore.
And so we came to our solution. In order to help prevent misinformation and the spread of rumours, anything tagged as G5 will be assumed to be speculative until proven otherwise.

We look forward to the time we can reverse this policy.

This post is pretty much the same as the static page, but it will help with visibility.

By now, if you're here, you might be confused or intrigued about some of our choices, like for example the prefixes. The objective is always to help and facilitate specific and specialised searches without hurting general ones.

With that said, I will expand on a few of our choices that might raise an eyebrow:

— There are five Twilight Sparkle tags, all with prefixes of course. Twilight Sparkle (unicorn), Twilight Sparkle (Alicorn), Twilight Sparkle (EQG) and Twilight Sparkle (SciTwi). I hope it's obvious why we chose to allow users to make a distinction of her forms. The fifth tag is just Twilight Sparkle and it is implied by the others, that one does not make distinctions.

— For pretty much the same reason, we have Spike and Spike (dog). In this case we didn't think it would be important to distinguish between the Spike that goes through the portal and the one that is native to EQG.

— The character: prefix might seem unnecessary at first given the fairly unique names of the most popular characters, but it has already proven useful for cases like Aloe, Boulder, Daisy or Lily.

— The episode: prefix is likely the one least needed, but it's good to have consistency.

— The ship: prefix was created because searching for your favourite ships is something that should be easy to do. Sometimes the name contractions become something with meaning, like SunLight. It will also help in tandem with the parents: prefix, so that you don't get results where only the hypothetical child is present

And of course, aliases and implications will help tie everything together and make searching for what you want as painless as possible. For requesting some of those, please head on over to the appropriate thread, we're always eager to consider links we may have missed.

On Manebooru we restrict a set of over 1,300 notable names from the fandom. This was implemented in order to prevent impersonation problems we've seen on other recently created boorus. The list includes:

* The entire Derpibooru Do-Not-Post list.
* The 500 most prolific artists on Derpibooru.
* A curated list of show staff, musicians, video makers, authors, and other names from the fandom.

If your name is on the list, there are a few steps we need you to go through in order to confirm that:

1) Register with a temporary name.
2) Post at least one of your works tagged with yourself as the artist, so that we can associate the tag with your account.
3) Set up some User Links to act as verification of your identity. (Under Links, in the dropdown menu on the upper-right.)
4) Drop a reply under this post, or email [email protected]. We’ll check things over, and change your name for you.

We understand this is an inconvenience, but our hope is that the benefits will outweigh that.

The forum of Manebooru will be restricted to sections and topics concerning the site. There will be no general, fanfiction, roleplaying, meme, off-topic, media or any sort of subforums unrelated to the site and its operations.

The ones that exist right now, Site and Policy and Tagging Discussion, are not final. In the future we might create a few more subforums like Art Discussion or Uploading Discussion, that will depend on the needs that arise with time.
However, our initial stance for the forums will not change: the forums exist for the sake of the site.
